4 Steps to Start a Blog

4 Steps to Start a Blog

It took me 10 years (yes! 10 years!!!) to start a blog. Procrastination, doubt, insecurities, and life got in the way, not to mentioned the abundance of information that is available out there! Where do I even start? I felt so scatter brained, starting a million tasks, but never completing any. I was overwhelmed with the amount of research I was completing, only to feel I was only at step 1, day after day.

Analysis Paralysis

I was listening to the audio book The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin and I was identified as a Questioner. According to the report; “Questioners want to make well-considered decisions and come to their own conclusions, they’re very intellectually engaged, and they’re often willing to do exhaustive research. Questioners themselves sometimes complain that they suffer “analysis paralysis,” or wish they could accept expectations without probing them so relentlessly.” This information was a turning point for me. One of the suggestions in the book was to put a time limit on research, so that is what I did. I allowed myself 30 minutes to research and find a blogging course (I know 30 minutes doesn’t seem like much, but remember, I have been researching how to start a blog for 10 years). In 30 minutes, I came back to a pin on pinterest (that I have looked at many times), clicked it, and bought an eCourse.

Deciding on a Blogging Course: Blog By Numbers Course

While researching “how to start a blog” on Pinterst, I came across Suzi from Start A Mom Blog. Perfect! She is a mom, and teaches how to start a blog. I looked through her pins and loved reading her income reports, time management tips, and blogging resources. Her content really resignited with me. Everything she posted on Pinterest and Facebook answered a question I had, or further explained a topic I was interested in. I highly recommend finding her on Pinterest and Facebook, and taking a look at her Blog By Numbers courses.

Additional Steps to Get My Blog Up and Running:

  1. Increase your personal development. Have a good understanding of who you are and what your goals are. I do this by listening to Podcasts daily! I use the Podcasts App on my iPhone and Stitcher.
  2. Decide on a course or mentor to help you along your way. Use Pinterest to find information!
  3. Setup your blog. I used SiteGround for hosting and it couldn’t have been easier! SiteGround’s customer service is excellent. I used their chat feature to receive step by step directions on how to setup my WordPress site. This is also further explained in Suzi’s Blog By Number course.
  4. Just do it! This is the most important step. Stop the researching, stop the perfectionism, just do it. It is not going to be perfect, and that’s okay!

I hope you have found these tips helpful. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to chat! =)
